The government must allocate 2.5-3.5% of annual budget for debt principal payment, the ministry said. For the 2019 annual budget, 2.6% of the budget expenditure has been set for principal payment. The Public Debt Management Office (PDMO) recently said that setting the public debt principal payment at a low level could ramp up debt liabilities and later affect the government's cash flow. Foreign-denominated public debt must not exceed 10% of the overall public debt and 5% of exports and services. Thailand's public debt amounted to 6.45 trillion baht, representing 41% of GDP, at the end of March, according to the PDMO's data.
